Objective:

This project’s objective was to address the challenges faced by U.S. public and private shipyards to find effective methods for overseeing their vast and growing supply base. The project team explored and analyzed the existing Supplier Audit Program (SAP) initiatives and made recommendations for improvements, expanded participation, and increased effectiveness and consistency of process execution among the SAP activities.

The analysis enabled and supported the evaluation of the failure modes of the current process, which then led to the determination of the opportunities for improvements. Extensive analysis of those failure modes was performed in order to develop and execute a method for affinitizing the failure modes, so that they could logically be grouped into larger categories of problems. Those problem categories were then prioritized, providing the sequence in which the numerous opportunities for process improvements should be pursued.
